About this deck material calculator
Deck area and board covering assumptions in, rough board count or linear footage out — a shopping-list sketch before you visit the lumber yard.
Area = length × width (or the area field). Board need divides covered area by the effective face width of a board, with an optional waste percent.
Not an engineered deck plan. Joist sizing, footings, ledger attachment, and railing rules need code and a builder. Waste factors vary with pattern and cuts.
How are boards counted?
Boards run the length. Rows are the deck width in inches divided by board width, rounded up. Each row needs enough stock boards to cover the deck length. Multiply, add waste, round up.
Does this include framing?
No. Decking boards only.
