About this PayPal fee calculator
Same idea as other processor cards: percent plus fixed on a payment, or gross-up so you keep a target after fees.
Fee = amount × percent ÷ 100 + fixed. Gross-up rearranges that formula. Defaults come from Bare’s PayPal rates snapshot on the page.

What rate is this?
Goods: US PayPal Checkout / goods and services, 3.49% plus 49 cents. Friends: Friends and family domestic is treated as 0% here. Other PayPal products differ.
What is reverse calculation?
If you need to take home a set amount, it solves for the charge that leaves that amount after the fee. Friends leaves the charge equal to the net.
Does this talk to PayPal?
No. It uses a small rate file. Nothing is sent to PayPal.
