Estimate what Stripe’s percentage-plus-fixed fee takes from a charge, and what you need to charge to net a target amount after fees.
Forward fee ≈ amount × percent ÷ 100 + fixed. Reverse (gross-up) solves for charge so that charge − fee = desired net, using the same percent and fixed from the rates file on the page.
Rates are illustrative defaults from Bare’s rates JSON, not a live Stripe API quote. International, billing, Radar, and Connect fees are out of scope. Confirm on Stripe’s pricing page before you price a product.
What rate is this?
The US standard online card rate in the dated table (today: 2.9% plus 30 cents). Other Stripe products and countries differ.
What is reverse calculation?
If you need to take home a set amount, it solves for the charge that leaves that amount after the fee.
Does this talk to Stripe?
No. It uses a small rate file. Nothing is sent to Stripe.
